“I’ve been working with Doug Murphy for about a year and a half and my only regret so far is that I didn’t begin years before that. My wife gave me ten sessions with Doug as a birthday gift. I had never worked with a personal trainer before and frankly I was a little unsure of what to expect.
Doug came to my office to interview me and to give me a brief flexibility and strength test. I won’t admit how pathetic I was on both, but I will say that since working with him I have improved markedly.
I’m a runner and have completed many 100 mile races and marathons and the fact that I never had any kind of stretching program finally began to catch up with me. Small, nagging injuries began to have a serious impact on my running, so when I met Doug, he asked what I hoped to gain from working with a trainer. I said I’d like to have better upper body strength and significantly better flexibility.
Doug works me hard during the sessions and suggests what exercises and stretches I can do between sessions, especially when I am traveling. While he works me hard, he pays close attention during the workout and makes sure I have time to recover between sets or exercises. He also makes sure that I drink enough water during the workout.
Since I have been working with Doug I haven’t had a single running injury and I can see the difference in my flexibility. I don’t do enough work between sessions, so it’s important that I keep a regular schedule with Doug. I would recommend him highly to anyone who is thinking of working with a personal trainer.”

This year I decided to compete in grappling at the Gay Games, and knew I needed to have more endurance to get me through my matches. From one session to the next, he completely revamped my training to work on endurance, and really pushed me through the next month.
